He was predeceased by: his parents, Jake DeJong and Elvie DeJong (DeBulten); his siblings, Marcine and Donald; his siblings-in-law, Caroline and Calvin; and his sons-in-law, Bill Dirks and Andy Gayette.
He is survived by: his wife Luella Mechels; his daughters, Tish Dirks, Anita Stugelmeyer (Earl) of Lemmon, SD and Debra Thompson (Gordon); his grandchildren, Nichole Dirks, Michelle Foor (Joseph), Michael Gayette, Jami Robbins (Patrick) and Grant Thompson (Mallory); his great grandchildren, Dylan Foor, Isabella Foor, Caleb Gayette, Kaya Gayette, Hailey Robbins, Isaac Robbins, Jade Thompson, Elise Thompson and Sylvie Thompson; his brothers, Jim DeJong (Dixie) and Marvin DeJong (JoAnn); and his sisters-in-law, Lynda DeJong, Alma Gors (Dick), Joanne Bennis (Chuck) and Jeanette Eichacker-McVay.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 27th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church (335 W 1st St, Tea, SD 57064). A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 27th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
