He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto G Tapken and Marie V. Tapken (Burch); his son Steven Duane Tapken; his brother George Tapken; and his son-in-law Allyn Frances.
He is survived by: his wife Alice "Irene" Tapken; his daughters, Margaret Denton (Steven) and Mary Frances; and his stepchildren, Shirley Nichols (Gary) and Russ Wildey. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Friday, March 14th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel (1235 Junction Ave, Sturgis, SD 57785). A burial was held on Friday, March 14th 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Black Hills National Cemetery (20901 Pleasant Valley Dr, Sturgis, SD 57785).
