He was predeceased by: his parents, Emmet Hayes and Tilla Hayes (Lassegard); his former wife Ermille; his siblings, Lester, Gordon and Lucille Bennett; his stepdaughter Pamela Julius; and his son Russell.
He is survived by: his wife Diana Murray; his stepchildren, Jerry, Jim Bertolotto and Jeff; and his grandchildren, Chad, Nick, Josh, Joe and Maggie. He is also survived by 14 great grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers memorials have been established to Grace Lutheran Church and the Kiwanis Food Pantry.
