He was predeceased by: his parents, George Herr and Margaret Herr; his siblings, Arlys Seiler, Delmar Herr and Wayne Herr; and also Glen Herr.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon; his children, Duane Herr, Shane Herr, Chris Herr (Jessica) and Debi Walsh (Jeff); and his stepchildren, Shelley Sargent and Amy Stotts (Chris).
A memorial has been established to the Veterans Memorial in Spearfish.
