He was predeceased by: his parents, Anton Cherniatynsky and Nadia Cherniatynsky (Chorna); and his siblings, Liudmyla and Leonid. He is survived by: his wife Irena Dumansky; his children, Vitold and Margaret; his grandchildren, Kai and Elealeh; and his brothers, Viktor Cherniatynskyi (Liuda), Igor Cherniatynskyi (Valentina) and Aleksandr Cherniatynskyi (Svitlana).
