He was predeceased by: his parents, William Gillis and Helen Gillis (Tousignant); and his brother Robert Gillis. He is survived by: his former wife Diane Gillis of Swea City, IA; his sons, Donald James and Thomas Gillis Jr. (Laura) of Sioux Falls; his siblings, Julie Gillis of Huntsville, AL and Todd Gillis of Duluth, MN; his grandsons, Thomas III (Kate), Deric Gillis and Nathaniel Gillis; and his stepgrandson Christopher Vassar. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
