He was predeceased by: his parents, Opal Maher (Smith) and James Maher; and his siblings, Jim, Pauline (Phillip Schneiderhan), Rose (Kobey Kruse), Alice (Richard Hoier), Sharon Meirose, Ellen Baete, Margaret Dean (Honey) and Patricia (Al Bader).
He is survived by: his former wife Patricia Thorson; his children, Timothy of Brandon, SD, Christopher (Paula) and Wendi (Steve Buetow); his wife Jean Viland; his sons, Paul Carda and Joseph Sioux Falls (Shelby); his grandchildren, Mickenzi (Rebecca), Ellie and Kara; his great grandchildren, Mason and Maddi; his brothers-in-law, Paul Meirose, Glen Dean (Kathy), Steve Viland (Marla), Dennis Viland (Lorraine Johnson) and Daryl Viland (Marlys); and his close friends, Pete Peterson (Mary), Dave Holmoe (Nadine), Roger Wood, Bo Albers (Barb), Bob Albers and Harlan Koens. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to the charity of their choice.
