He was predeceased by: his father Jack Kunkel; and his mother-in-law Judy Knudtson. He is survived by: his wife Kathleen; his daughters, Meghan, Kathryn and Carly; his mother Jackie Kunkel Titus; his father-in-law John Knudtson (Sadie); his brothers, Kevin, Mark (Jen), Mike (JoAnn), Joel and Tim (Steph); his brother-in-law Ken (Tammy); and his nieces and nephews, Chloe, Addie, Lauren, Maddie, Charlie, Sidney, Emma, Bridget, Jenna, Tyler, Josh, Jack and John.

In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations can be directed to the Sioux Falls Catholic School's tuition assistance program or the USD Dakotathon Dance Marathon to benefit South Dakota's Children's Miracle Network.
