He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Halter and Marie Halter (Connor); his wife Cecelia "Cel" Nelson; his son Bryan Halter; his siblings, Eugene Halter and Janice Hummi; and his siblings-in-law, Linda Halter and Dave Hummi.
He is survived by: his children, Jackie Winegar (Randy) of Huron, Steve Halter (Staci) of Huron and Angie Halter of Sioux Falls; his granddaughter Jennifer Miller (Brett) of Tea; his stepgrandchildren, Madison Sowle of St. Paul, Nathan Sowle of Huron and Tabatha Nedved (Terry) of Alpena; and his great grandchildren, Alex, Danika, Kenzie and Brynnlee Miller of Tea.
