He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Mathis and Ruby Mathis; and his brothers, Terry Mathis and Owen. He is survived by: his daughters, Cathleen Mathis (Daniel Overby) and Christine Lueth (Bradley); his siblings, William Mathis (Lisa), Elaine Sorenson (Randy) and Linda Powell; and his grandchildren, Elliot and Mallory Lueth. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
