He was predeceased by: his parents, Luverne Peterson and Ruth Peterson; his sisters, Pat Given and Noreen Jamison; his nephews, Marty and Bill Given; his niece Connie Kiffmeyer; his great-nephew Mic Given; and his brothers-in-law, Jim Given and Bob Kaltved.
He is survived by: his wife Joleen Peterson; his children, Debb Leih (Kevin) of Gillette, WY, Jill Mabon and Scott Peterson (Jana) of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Josh Mabon (Jerricka), Emily Mabon, Jordan Mason (Kale), Cole Peterson and Trey Peterson; his great grandchild Camdyn Mabon; his siblings, Marjean Kaltved (Ron), Shirley Kaltved, Steve Peterson (Anne), Stan Peterson (Lori), Mark Peterson (Jan Broderson) and Brad Peterson (Lisa); and his brother-in-law Joe Jamison. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the South Dakota Synod Endowment Fund in Richard's name to benefit seminary scholarships and debt reduction.
