He was predeceased by: his parents, James Butler and Mary Butler (Chase); his wife Shirley (Lowe) of Ponca, Nebraska.; his grandson Derek Sogn; his siblings, Deloris Murphy, Jim, Jerry, Robert and Douglas Butler; and his close friend Pat Bartram.
He is survived by: his children, Kathy Marty (Dennis) of Tea, SD, Joe Butler (Joni) of Sioux Falls, SD, Kim Sogn (Paul) of Canton, SD, Jeff Butler (Laura) of Hermosa, SD and Kelli Winckler (Charlie) of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.
He was selected for the Honor Flight 2020 but due to COVID the flights were cancelled.
