He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas A. Varns and DeeDe Varns (Wilder); his son Ronald Varns (DeeAnn); and his siblings, Virginia Bandura (Albert), Eula Varns, Erma Lahn (Dick), Betty Miller (Vince), Dorothy Welbig (Leon), Loretta Miller (Duane), Goldie Varns, Edward Varns (Kate) and James Varns.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy J. Baker (Baker) of Sioux Falls; and his children, Mary Lynn Pleiss (Vern) of Nickerson, NE, Cynthia McQuay (Robert) of Sioux Falls, Daniel Varns of Sioux Falls, Scott Varns (Lori) of Sioux Falls, Christine Schweitzer (Dave) of Sioux Falls and Matthew Varns of Fort Collins, CO. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
