Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Monsignor Richard James Mahowald of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, born in Watertown, South Dakota, who passed away at the age of 90, on November 5, 2020. He was predeceased by: his parents, Benedict Mahowald and Mary Mahowald (Rozum); and his siblings, Pat Mahowald (Colette) of Watertown, Virginia Gordon (Jack) of Denver, Mary Chester (Reed) of Lakewood, CO and Ruth DeLuca (Pete).
He is survived by: his siblings, Kay Walsh (Cliff), Benita Coughlin (Jim) of Sioux Falls, Jim Mahowald (Kay) of Watertown and Steve Mahowald (Lois) of Omaha. He is also survived by 54 nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family requests only family and clergy attend the Mass in person, preferably masked.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to the seminarian education fund of the Diocese of Sioux Falls or Broom Tree Retreat.
