He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Johnson and Dollie Johnson; his brothers, Donald Johnson, Richard Johnson (Barbara) and Homer Johnson (Shirley); and his siblings-in-law, Clifford Hotchkin, Dale Olson and Marie Haney.
He is survived by: his wife Mary E. Haney; his grandchildren, Dawn and Shannon; his children, Scott Johnson (Denise Lounsbery), Dawn Vigil (Janni) and Shannon Johnson (Luis Avila); his grandchildren, Hayley Johnson, Alex Thorson (Erinn), Caitlyn Jenkins (Michael), Delaney Thorson, Jacen Thorson and Charlie Avila; his sisters, Ruth JoAnn Hotchkin of Colton, SD and Marlys Olson of Trent, SD; and his siblings-in-law, Joanne Johnson of Brookings, SD and Ron Haney of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
