He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Schartz and Catherine Schartz (Sutton); his wife Donnabelle Burggraff; his great grandchild Stephen Erickson; his siblings, Mildred, James, Greta, Leo and Edward; and his siblings-in-law, Herman Plagge, Donald Burgraff and Mary Burggraff.
He is survived by: his son Jeff (Linda); his grandchildren, Ann and Andrew; his child Jeanita Erickson (Dale); his grandchildren, Pam and Michael; his daughter Patricia Pearson (William); his grandchildren, Matthew, Adam, Christopher and Ryan; his daughter Susan Tjeerdsma (Virgil); his grandsons, Cody and Marcus; his sons, Paul of Humboldt and Scott (Gayle); his granddaughters, Samantha and Meghan; his daughter Sheila Vis (Kelly); his grandsons, Caleb and Isaiah; his daughter Janet Swier (Craig); his grandchildren, Lincoln and Taya; his sister Avis Herdina of Rapid City, SD; and his sisters-in-law, Marian Plagge of Sioux Falls and LaVonne Rose of Sioux Falls. He is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the St. Ann's Catholic Church (204 S Jefferson St, Humboldt, SD 57035). A prayer was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the same location.
