He was predeceased by: his parents, Rudolph Schauer and Emma Schauer (Opp); and his siblings, Mildred Dieringer (Gale), Lester Schauer and Angie Haynes (Roland).

He is survived by: his wife Helen Wenck of Sioux Falls; his children, Leslie Taylor (Matt) of Oak Harbor, WA, David Schauer (Patrice) of Littleton, CO, Jerry Schauer (Angel) of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Gary Schauer (Susie) of Sioux Falls; and his pet Murphy.
