He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Groot and Jeanette De Groot (Vegter) of Orange City, Iowa.; his siblings, John (Sally), Bill, Clarence (Jeanette), Harold, Leo, Theresa "Trix" Kuiper (Tony) and Clarena Van Gelder (Dick); and his siblings-in-law, Peter Ravestein (Muriel) and Betty Engeltjes (Andrew).
He is survived by: his wife Cathy; his son Leon (Krina) of Escondido; his granddaughters, Janelle and Sarah; his son Jerry (Sandy) of Sioux Center; his grandchildren, Kim (Luke Darling), Darren (Rachel) and Mark (Hanna); his daughter Marlene (Rick Haak) of Sioux Falls; his grandsons, Jonathan (Dawn), Brian, Nathan (Erica) and Jeremy (Heidi); his son Kevin (Darlene) of Valley Springs; his grandchildren, Alicia (Jonathan Kayser), Denise (Caleb Walsh), Daniel (Emily), Colin (Taylor), Jamie (Daniel Dick), Josh, Bethany and Hannah; his son Norlan (Julie) of Sioux Center; his grandchildren, Christopher (Jordan), Philip, Megan (Kyle Siegrist) and Amy; his sister Janice Mouw; and his sisters-in-law, Helen De Groot, Marjean De Groot and Joan De Groot. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
