He was predeceased by: his parents, George Der and Bessie Van Der (Fransen); and his brothers, Bernard, Gerrit and Henry "Hank" Van Der Ziel.
He is survived by: his wife Cornelia of Sioux Falls, SD; his children, Glenn Van Der Ziel of Sioux Falls, SD, Brenda Walters (Gregg) of Woodbury, MN, Helena Hornbeck (Jim) of Sioux Falls, SD and Eric Van Der Ziel of Houston, TX; his grandchildren, Kyle Walters, Ryan Walters and Dezaray Hornbeck; and his sisters-in-law, Yvonne Van Der Ziel and Wilma Van Der Ziel.
