He was predeceased by: his parents, George Schmit and LaVonne Schmit (Brutty); his parents-in-law, Audrey and Orvilla Scott; his brother Garland; his sister-in-law Audrey Schrank; and his stepgranddaughter Molly Long.
He is survived by: his wife Dixie (Scott); his children, Stephanie Svoboda (Dan) of Carver, MN, Rochelle Long (Kevin) of Bridgewater, VA and John Schmit of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Allison Seifert, Benjamin Seifert and Cole Svoboda; his stepgrandson Jackson Long; his brother Douglas Schmit (Roxy); and his uncle Robert Brutty (Carol). He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
