He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Vermeer and Dorothy Vermeer (Bernards); his son Douglas Vermeer; his grandson Carter Johnson; and his sister Marty Vermeer.
He is survived by: his wife Lila Beyer of John's Lutheran; his daughters, Lisa Johnson (Tom) and Amy Maher (Mike); his grandchildren, Makayla Maher, Kailey Osmundson (Ethan), Izabella Maher, Chase Maher and Malia Johnson; and his siblings, Anna Huiskes, Mary Harris (Dave), Burt Vermeer (LeeAnn), Jane VanderWolde (Gene), John Vermeer (Mary) and Barb Nankivel. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, November 4th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Heartland Funeral Home (1801 Frontier St, Brandon, SD 57005). A memorial service was held on Tuesday, November 5th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Truth Lutheran Church (112 E Annabelle St, Brandon, SD 57005).
