He is survived by: his friend Jerry; his wife Dorothy; his children, Lori, Chip Hortness (Cheri) of Sioux Falls, SD, Steve Hortness (Susan) of Little Falls, MN, Janelle Johnson (Jerry) and Julie McKenzie (Rick) of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Ashley Nelson (Adam), Mitchel McKenzie (Lindsey), Dane Hortness (Maggie), Jessica Schenk (Reid), Molly Beck (Joe), Joshua Johnson (Megan), Alexis Millar (Joe), Christopher Hortness, Nathan McKenzie (Amy), Jennifer Hortness and Michael McKenzie; his great grandchildren, Graham, Audrey, Maysen, Wyatt, Kaylee, Dayton, Amos, Cooper, Oliver, Sebastian, Oakley, Taylor, Winston, Norah, Margot, Stanley, Gavin, Blakely, Jude, Willow, Henrik and Brennan; his siblings-in-law, Gordon Lohre (Sally) of Yucaipa, CA and Maurine Hortness; his siblings, Harold, Melvin, Pete, Hjalmer, Amelia, Norma, Del and Wally; and his great grandchild Sophie. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 2nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Nelson Community Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Stanley Hortness Memorial Scholarship at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Dollars for Scholars, in Minnesota.
