He was predeceased by: his parents, Marcella "Sally" Thorstenson (Eisemann) of Selby and Norman Thorstenson; his brothers, Albert and David; and his great-nephew Adam Thorstenson.

He is survived by: his wife Carlotta Helvik of Selby; his siblings, Angie of Nisland, SD, Trent (Bill) of Selby, SD, Rory (Linda) of Selby, SD, Desi Simons (Scott) of Selby, SD and Tone of Hudson Oaks, TX; his siblings-in-law, Quentin Helvik (Joan) of Gillette, WY, Miron Helvik (Jenni) of Arlington, SD, Wayne Helvik (Deb) of Hazen, ND and Noreen Lehrkamp (Jerry) of Aberdeen, SD; and his aunt JoElla Thorstenson of Selby, SD. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews.
