He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilhelm C. Schmidtgall and Katherina Schmidtgall (Schilling); his sisters, Bernice Schlecht, Adeline Brown and Verna Mehlhaff; his granddaughter Kara Olson; his brothers-in-law, Fred Schlecht, Edward Mehlhaff and Art Schlecht; and his nephew Mark Schlecht.
He is survived by: his wife Bev Naasz of Selby; his daughters, Linda Olson (Claude) of Selby, Arlene Hicks (Ted) of Kadoka, SD and Elaine Sanftner (Chase) of Black Hawk, SD; his siblings, Irene Schlecht of Bowdle, SD and Harold Schmidtgall of Giltner, NE; his brother-in-law Ruben Brown of Bowdle, SD; his grandchildren, Lindsey Grone (Joe) of Black Hawk, SD, Kayla Laine (Trevor) of Selby, SD, Levi Sanftner (Autumn) of Summerset, SD, Kassie Hicks of Piedmont, SD and Jarred Hicks of Kadoka, SD; and his great grandchildren, Jameson, Lydia, Joelin Grone, Liv Sanftner and Brookelynn Laine. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, November 7th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the St. John Lutheran Church (3205 5th Ave, Selby, SD 57472). A funeral service was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
