He was predeceased by: his parents, Louise (Timp) and John J. Schmidt; his siblings, Bernice Schmidt, Virginia Hawkinson, Marlyn and Marvin; his son-in-law Bill Crackel; and his siblings-in-law, Larry Hawkinson, Wayne Taylor and Judy Schmidt.
He is survived by: his wife Donna M. Thies of Anthony's Catholic Church; his children, Alan Schmidt of Redfield, SD, Loren Schmidt, Joseph Schmidt (Wendy) of Roscoe, Duane Schmidt of Bismarck, ND, Kathy Crackel of Rapid City, SD and Carol Geditz of Selby; and his siblings, Norbert Schmidt (Gloria) of Spearfish, SD, Vern Schmidt (Carolyn) of Hoven, Ken Schmidt (Evie) of Aberdeen, SD and Bonnie Taylor of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great, great granddaughter.
