He was predeceased by: his parents, John K. Vander Laan and Angeline Vander Laan (Van Vugt); his sister Ione; and his brother-in-law Marvin Ehley. He is survived by: his niece Jean Dutt (Paul); his great-nieces, Jessica Campbell (Joshua), Catherine Reitzel (Elias), Laura Krebs (Noah) and Sarah Dutt; and his nephew Mark Ehley.
