He is survived by: his wife Carol Ries; his children, Steve Backes (Deb) of Platte, SD, Kathy Hoffman (Mike) of Mitchell, SD and Dave Backes (Sherri) of Platte, SD; his son-in-law Steven Panchyshyn of Farmington, MN; and his siblings-in-law, Elaine Backes of Rapid City, SD, Eugene Ries of Mitchell, SD, Kenneth Ries of Corsica, SD and Gerald Ries of Hudson, WI.
