He was predeceased by: his parent Asa "Sonny"; his pet Agnes Little Hawk; his siblings, Christina, Roberta Little Brave, Eleanor Red Cloud, Lillian Sharpfish, Sylvan Little Hawk, Harry Starr, Manley Ray Little Brave and Wilbur Between Lodges; his grandparents, Hazel Little Hawk, Robert Little Hawk and Edna (Lone Hill); and his pet Asa.
He is survived by: his children, Edward Shields, Jr. of Pine Ridge, SD, Hazel Shields of Lawrence, KS, Samuel of Oglala, SD, Daniel Hand of Oglala, SD, Marissa Shields of Pine Ridge, SD and Stephen Shields of Sioux Falls, SD; his sisters, Audrey Shields of Lawrence, KS and Edna Plenty Arrows of Allen, SD; his granddaughter Larissa Rose Long of Pine Ridge, SD; his uncle Rick; and his brother Rene Hall.
