He was predeceased by: his parents, Olaf Garness and Mabel Garness (Sneesby); and his sister Carolyn LaPlant. He is survived by: his spouse Jessie Jones Bucholz; his children, David Bucholz (Kris), Dennis Bucholz (Laurie), Robert Bucholz (Blanca), Randy Bucholz, Brett Garness (Janna) and Vanessa Garness; and his brothers, Leonard Garness and Dennis Garness (Alice). He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
