He was predeceased by: his parents, William Sambeek and Sophia Van Sambeek (Van); his wife Theresa Ann Gebhart; and his siblings, Willie Vander Eyk, Henry Van Sambeek (John Van Sambeek), Ella DeVaal (Rosella Lemke) and Bertha Brotzel Knutson.
He is survived by: his children, Joan Frerichs (Eugene) of Milbank, SD and David Van Sambeek (Tammy Steen) of Brookings, SD; his close friend Shirley Conraads of Milbank, SD; and his brother-in-law Gerald Lemke of Milwaukee, WI.. He is also survived by six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Legion Baseball Field or St. Lawrence Catholic School.
