He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Hicks and Annette Hicks (Holmes); his wife Mavis Eleanore Howell; his daughter Cheryl Hicks Eiring (William "Bill" Eiring); his brothers, Phillip and John; and his sister-in-law Doris Hicks.

He is survived by: his children, James Hicks (Debra) of Wilmot, SD and Teresa Dashiell (David); his brother Robert Hicks (Linda) of Indian Trail, NC; his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Piechowski (Stan) of Breckenridge, MN and Jeanette Howell of Williamsburg, IA; and his close friend Donna Karr of Redfield, SD.. He is also survived by Twin Brooks, SD; 18 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
