With profound sadness, we say goodbye to John Basler (Madison, South Dakota), whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. John left this world on January 14, 2025 at the age of 95, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Basler and Pearl Basler (Kaske) of Wentworth; his in-laws, Nira and Harm Baumann; and his siblings, Marie Basler Kittleson and Norman Basler.
He is survived by: his wife Darlene Basler of Wentworth; his children, Craig Basler (Lisa), Gail Basler and Mona Manthey (David); and his grandchildren, Tessa Basler, Kyle Basler (Beth Peterson), Jana Haecherl (Ben), Ryan Wiese, Arika Irvine (Lee), Breanne Strobel (Trevor) and Mitch Manthey (Shayla).
Visitation was held on Friday, January 17th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Saturday, January 18th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. A prayer was held on Friday, January 17th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 6:15 PM at the Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel (320 Egan Ave N, Madison, SD 57042). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church (401 S Main Ave, Wentworth, SD 57075).
He was the recipient of the Certificate of Merit awarded by the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce and the Sioux City Journal for outstanding contribution to the development of the agriculture industry, this program being under the Marc Cox conservation plan.
