Bruce Morris wrote a sympathy message

“Hello Edmonds Family. It is with great sorrow that I heard the news of the passing of Mary. Though I didn't move to Pearisburg until I was in high school, Mary became a very close friend whose smile and words would brighten up every day. She was such a wonderful cheerleader whether working officially or not. I simply can't imagine how I would have survived the first few years in Pearisburg without her in my life. I stayed in touch with her through college and we both lived in Richmond after we graduated. I hope that some time I soon I will be in the Portsmouth area and I can tell you many of our stories. Mary met my Aunt Bebe and won over her heart, no trip I have made since to Richmond didn't include questions about how Mary was doing. And gosh, she just gushed when she met my wife Alice and I was so happy when I heard she met Bob. I wanted to write these words to you because I know as a family you know how terrific a mother and wife she was. I just wanted to tell you she was so much more. I only spoke to her twice since she let us know in the Christmas letter (the Morris family always looked forwared to seeing the girls' pictures ) that she had cancer but I was just taken aback just how positive she was. When Betsy Beamer texted me that Mary had passed all I could do was drive around saddened that such a truly inspirational person was no longer on Earth. . I will miss her laughter, her love and her spirit. I have spoken to several of our 'back home' friends and we have all said the same thing. Mr and Mrs Harris are up there in heaven hugging Mary, wondering why she is there way too early. Please know that there is so much to the things the Mary did that touched others that you will never know. Know that gift will keep giving. Unfortunately I cannot make the memorial but I will be there in spirit and my prayers are with the Edmonds family, as well as with Mike, Rita and Linda. Love Bruce Morris”
