He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Vedvei and Andrina Vedvei (Russett); his wife Joanne Hesby Nelson; his son Richard Nelson; his sisters, Beatrice Krahn and Signe Anderson; and his niece Jean Rounds.
He is survived by: his children, Tony Nelson (Paula) of Vermillion, SD, Kurt Nelson (Jodi) of Sinai, SD and Anita Nelson (Brian Detmers) of Brookings, SD; his brother Alec Vedvei (Helen) of Lake Preston, SD; his sisters-in-law, Helen Jones of Lake Preston and Eunice Hesby of De Smet, SD.; his grandchildren, Adam Nelson (Anna) of Chicago, IL, Kayla Warren (Blake) of Haslet, TX, Josh Nelson (Amanda) of Madison, SD, Breanne Brezina (Tim) of Sinai, SD, Jordan Nelson of Dell Rapids, SD, Alexis Thuringer of Brookings, SD and Makenzie Thuringer (Kyle Bagnell) of Polson, MT.; and his great grandchildren, Oliver Warren, Beckett Brezina, Baylor Brezina, Kennedy Conrad, Westyn Conrad and Alice Nelson. He is also survived by several nieces, nephew, and cousins.
