He was predeceased by: his parents, J. Edwald Hayes and Gladys Hayes (Roberts) of Keystone; his sister Judith; his wife Barbara; and his son David.
He is survived by: his children, Karen Hayes, Nancy Burrus (Bob) and John Hayes (Margaret); and his grandchildren, Brandon Hayes (Kelcie), Daniel Parra (Sophia), Karri Hight (Eric), Stefanie Lange (Cameron), Tarah Simms (Tyler) and Lisa Hayes.
He received the Volunteer of the Quarter for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the Good Neighbor Award from the Keystone Area Historical Society, Keystone Masonic Lodge's Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award and the 2000 Award for Distinguished.
