He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Stiefvater and Velma Stiefvater (Hopkins); his children, Brenda Kay and Daniel; his sister Norma Jean Moreland; and his nephews, Ricky Stiefvater, Jay Alder and Luke Acuff.

He is survived by: his wife Grace Whitney; his sons, Shane Sheesley and Edwin Jr. (Kela); his grandsons, Justin and Jeremy Stiefvater; his great grandchildren, Xhavier Douglas McGreger, Blazen Stiefvater, Zyon Joe Turner and Violette Stiefvater; and his brothers, Larry Stiefvater (Virginia Ayers) and Robert Stiefvater (Rose-Maria).
