David Ertz Obituary
Mass of Christian Burial for David Ertz, 65, of Ipswich, SD will be Friday, October 20, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Church in Ipswich, SD with Fr. Timothy Cone officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Schriver Funeral Home, 720 N. 6th Street, Ipswich, SD with a Liturgical Wake Service starting at 5:30.
Visitation continues on Friday one hour prior to service at the Church.
David Joseph Ertz was born on May 2, 1958 to Edward and Shirley (Kukrall) Ertz Jr in Aberdeen, SD. He attended Holy Cross School through the sixth grade and participated in Boy Scouts at that time. David then went to Ipswich Public School and graduated in 1976. He wrestled in high school until he broke his elbow in his junior year.
Right out of high school, David joined a combine crew for the summer. He loved working with his hands. He did construction while living in Arizona and Colorado. While working in Arizona on large buildings, David honed his building trade which helped him later in life.
David married Linda Holmberg and had one child, Brandi. They lived in Arizona and Colorado and later divorced. When David moved back to Ipswich, he started his own carpentry business. He built many buildings, decks and finished interior houses around the Ipswich area. David enjoyed being outside, fishing and playing pool. He lived a colorful life and had a kind heart and would help anyone that needed help.
David passed away from a heart attack on October 5, 2023, while working in Ipswich.
David is survived by his daughter, Brandi Ertz from Colorado, mother, Shirley Ertz, brother Daryl (Connie) Ertz, brother-in-law Les (Deb) Braun, nieces: Lisa (Perry) Rye, Jean (Tracy) Hutson, Gwen (Lance) Tietz, Lara (Ron) Braun, Jenn (Wes) Lowe and nephew Joe Ertz, along with his great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special companion, Janene Whitters, and his two special puppies.
David was preceded in death by his father, Edward Ertz Jr.; sisters, Deb Braun and Donna Rohr; nephew Adam Rohr; and grandparents.
