He is survived by: his daughter Kristen Maasen (Travis); his grandchildren, Layton and McKenna; his brother Steve Wheeler (Peggy) of Muscatine, IA; and his close friend Janet Schinderling. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.

“I would like to pay my respects to Tom. His heart was broken after Kim passed away. Tom stopped in the casino before heading East and he mentioned that it was probably his last goodbye and I tried to make light of the situation because I saw in his eyes how much he was hurting. Even though him and Kim bickered with being brothers and all, they did take care of each other. Not a day goes by that I do not think of them both. Miss both you Kim and Tom.”
