He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon "Cobb" Magness and Novella Magness; his siblings, Jimmy, Mary Lou (Brice Clegg) and Joan (Don Dennis); and his brother-in-law J. D. McBrayer.

He is survived by: his wife Viola Beckett; his children, Brad Magness (Lori) of Huron, Julie Bauer (Rick) of Harrold and Becky Klein (Greg) of Dallas; and his siblings, Kay McBrayer of Georgia and Jack Magness (Sue) of Nebraska. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
