It is with great sadness that we announce the death of George Merkel (Huron, South Dakota), born in Eureka, South Dakota, who passed away on October 23, 2019, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred E. Merkel and Emma Merkel (Trautman); his wife Martha Schuler; his siblings, Harold Merkel (Gertie) and Donna Merkel; and his brother-in-law Herbert Oster.
He is survived by: his children, Karla Wells (Dave) of Loveland, CO and David Merkel (Carrie) of Billings, MT; his grandchildren, Christopher, Curtis Wells, Kristina Renz (Daniel), Brooke Merkel-Dolecheck (Dale) and Tyler Merkel; his great grandchildren, Kaylynn, Jorianna and Charlottie Wells; and his siblings, Jim Merkel (Stella) and Mary Jane Oster.
