He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Balvin and Ruth Balvin (Hutchinson); his wife Marlas Menning; his daughter-in-law Jamee Balvin; his sister Nancy Balvin; and his brother-in-law Roger Gravelle.
He is survived by: his children, Kristi Perrin (Dewey) of Huron and Dale Balvin of Scottsdale, Arizona; his grandchildren, Trevor Balvin of Scottsdale, Tracee Denton (Will) of Gilbert and Todd Balvin of Tempe, Arizona; his great grandchildren, Emree, Adeline and James Denton; his sister Verginia Gravelle of Sioux Falls; and his brothers-in-law, Paul Christen and Dr. Bob Hohm. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
He dedicated his time to the South Dakota Investment Council and the South Dakota Community Foundation.
