It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Ellen Mae Heafner of Hot Springs, South Dakota, born in Mitchell, South Dakota, who passed away on January 31, 2023, at the age of 68, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Roy McKown and Ardith McKown; her husband Charlie; and her brother Marlin. She is survived by: her former spouse Monte Kubo; her son Ryan Kubo (Yvonne); her grandchildren, Kennedy and Logan; her son Shawn Kubo (Alicia); her grandchildren, Lola and Gunnar; her stepdaughter Annette Badger; her grandchildren, Chuck, Tory and Grace; her stepson Dwayne Heafner; her grandchildren, Alexandra, Addison and Christian; and her siblings, Michael McKown, Barbara Barkley (Randy) and Judith Licht (Art). She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ardith McKown Nursing Scholarship through South Dakota State University.
