It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Daniel Alexander Sandven (Hill City, South Dakota), born in De Smet, South Dakota, who passed away on February 4, 2020, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel D. Sandven and Gretchen Sandven (Casberg) of Carthage, SD.; and his siblings, Darrell, Gretchen and Mary Beth.

He is survived by: his wife Lucile Sandven of Hill City, SD; his children, Steven Sandven of Hill City, Darrin Sandven (Nicki) of Hill City, Michele Sandven of Rapid City, SD and Shirlene Allgier (Julius) of Baltic, SD; his sister Karen Lorenz of Idaho; his siblings-in-law, Emil Jares of Colorado Springs, CO and Rena Sandven of Portsmouth, NH; his grandchildren, Shaylynn, Mandan, Melissa, Taylor, Carter, Spencer, Wyatt, Kierstin and Sophia; and his great grandchild Brynleigh.

“Dan worked on the construction crew with me summer of 1958 to build the Catholic church in Carthage, SD. His dad was in charge of construction. Dan was a teacher of carpentry at a technical college and was very involved with VICA locally and state wide with me. This Vocational Industrial Clubs of America helps college students develop leadership skills and compete nation wide. I visited with Dan at Carthage Straw Bale Days where hw & his band provided entertainment. He will be very much missed.”
