He was predeceased by: his parents, Svend C. Sampson and Ellen A. Sampson (Quam); his wife Alice Sampson; his son Darwin Sampson; his grandson B. J. Burshiem; and his siblings, Silas, Clarence, Amos, Gertrude Kussman and Sadie Cowell.

He is survived by: his children, Gordon Sampson (Cynthia), Terry Sampson (Dana) and Gayle Burshiem (Derek); his daughter-in-law Jean Sampson; his grandchildren, Amanda Richardson, Trevor Sampson, Wendy Sampson, Joseph Sampson and K. C. Burshiem; his great grandchildren, Piper Richardson (Amanda), Hailey Sampson, Peyton, Parker Fyler (Trevor), Kena, Madi, Cash, Beau Sampson (Joe), Keva, Kaden and Kensington Burshiem (K. C.); his great great grandchild Hunter (Hailey); and his sister-in-law Alice Buchheim. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
