He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Art Lakness and Jennie Lakness; his wife Benita Stormo; his sons, Nathan (Marietta) and Joe (Renee); his grandchildren, Stephanie Sauder (Jerry), Naomi Barrett (Tom), Robin Dorsett (Morgan), Anna Smith (Matt), Katie Vandersnick (Todd), Isaac Sauder (Jessica Mieras), Levi Sauder, Casey Barrett (Natalie), Kelly Barrett (Kenzi Young), Alexandra, Miranda and Payton Lakness; his great grandchildren, Olivia, Michael, Martin Dorsett, Lily, Ted, Bo Smith, Nathan, Bennett, Hoyer Vandersnick, George Sauder, Kinley and Kye Barrett; his sisters, Estelle Robish, Joanne Drenkow, Gail Roe (Leland) and Annette (Chuck Trumm); and his brothers-in-law, Maynard Robish, Fred Drenkow and Clair Stormo.
He often said he knew Parkinson's would get him someday, "but not this day.". In 2002, he received a deep brain stimulator to relieve some of the Parkinson symptoms.
