He was predeceased by: his father Duane DeVries; his grandparents, Leonard, Leona DeVries, Ward and Opal Johnson; and his parents-in-law, Evert Fredricks and Rhoda Fredricks.

He is survived by: his mother Sharon "Sheri" DeVries (Johnson); his former spouse Kim Christensen; his sons, Jay (Kelsi Eaton) of Spencer, IA, Joseph "Joe" DeVries (Kathleen) of Sioux Falls and Trever DeVries of Hartford, SD; his wife Geri of Hartford, SD; his grandchildren, Jep, Nova and Josie; and his siblings, Tim (Deb) of Hartford, SD, Howie Kolander of Sioux Falls and Teri McKenney of Sioux Falls.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, October 29th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Miller Funeral Home Westside Chapel (6200 W 41st St, Sioux Falls, SD 57106). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 30th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Reach Church (5101 S Mellenberndt Pl, Sioux Falls, SD 57108).

He is a member of the Zen chapter of ABATE of SD, member of ABATE of SD and MRF, Motorcycle Riders Foundation.
