He was predeceased by: his parents, Rueben Schmautz and Edna Schmautz; his sisters, Karen and Diane Gray; his brother-in-law Harley Gray; his daughter-in-law Carol Schmautz; and his siblings-in-law, Gaylord, Ray Edwards and Dorothy Edwards.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley; his children, Duane (Lori), Dale (Rhonda), Scarlet Becker (Dean), Tim (Jackie) and Danny (Liz); his sisters, Renee Chitwood (Larry) and Nancy Klunder (Kurt); and his close friend Dustin. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren.
