He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett Asmussen and Helen Asmussen (Musch); his sister Lynne Thomas; his brothers-in-law, Bruce Stangeland and Ed Ratajczak; and his grandchild Morgan Taylor Spartz.
He is survived by: his spouse Margaret Fitzpatrick (Maggie); his children, Lisa Spartz (Jason) of Marshall, MN, Julie Laleman (Ryan), Eau Claire and Cory Asmussen (Katie); his grandchildren, Riley, Paige, Ethan, Chase, Hailey, Mackenzie, London, Payton, Maddie, Kiyha, Jayda and Faith; his sister Marilyn Olsen (Jeff) of Herman, MN; and his siblings-in-law, James "Butch" Thomas of Gary, SD, Mary Stangeland of Bushnell, SD, Patty Hoseck (Curtis) and Sharon Ratajczak. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
