He was predeceased by: his father Clarence Hillestad (Hillerud); his son Michael Hillestad; his parents-in-law, Carl and Blanche Seas; his siblings, Arnold Hillestad, Millie Ridge and Mable Schutjer; his siblings-in-law, Elaine Mitchell, Marlys Paulsen, JoAnn Seas, Arlene Seas, Wayne Schutjer, Shirley Seas, Kenneth Seas, Chris Jensen, Norman Paulsen and Mack Mitchell; and his nephew Michael Hillestad.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Seas; his children, Theresa Schafer, Pam Braa (Mark), Sheila Martens (Jeff), Julie Apodaca (Robert) of Wright, WY and Craig Hillestad (Faye); his daughter-in-law Angie Hillestad of Rochester, MN; and his grandchildren, Eric (Hattie), Jay, Lea (Felix), Naomi (Edward), Abby (Matt), Jake (Jaci), Kari (Kent), Ben (Miriam), Nick (Stephanie), Lee (Kassie), Andrew, Shelby, Shawn, Charlie, Falecha (Justin) and Dorane (Dan). He is also survived by 38 great grandchildren.
