He was predeceased by: his wife Phyllis A. Burkhiser; his parents, Elam and Elsie; and his son-in-law Pat Moore. He is survived by: his children, Connie Moore of Chadron, Kim Madsen (John) of Chadron and Mark Grantham of Santa Monica, CA; his grandchildren, Justin Madsen (Carey) of Chadron, Jennifer Madsen Smith of North Platte, Melissa Nicholson (Bronc) of Chadron, Rebecca Watson of Pearland, TX, Julie Schommer (Marty) of Oelrichs, SD and Russell Moore of Chadron; his stepgrandchildren, Carey Jo Matthews of Kansas City, MO and Jacob Grantham; and his great grandchildren, Clay, Cody, Cole Madsen, Jarod, Julie Nicholson, Haley, Kasie Smith, Morgan, Roudy Schommer, William, Lauren Watson, Katelynn and Austin Reece.
Recently, he was very proud to receive one of the quilts presented by the Quilts of Valor Foundation honoring his service in WWII.
